| 62 | 月令: | 是月也，以立秋。先立秋三日，大史謁之天子曰：某日立秋，盛德在金。天子乃齊。立秋之日，天子親帥三公、九卿、諸侯、大夫，以迎秋於西郊。還反，賞軍帥武人於朝。天子乃命將帥，選士厲兵，簡練桀俊，專任有功，以征不義。詰誅暴慢，以明好惡，順彼遠方。 |
| Yue Ling: | In this month there takes place the inauguration of autumn. Three days before the ceremony) the Grand recorder informs the son of Heaven, saying, 'On such-and-such a day is the inauguration of the autumn. The character of the season is fully seen in metal.' On this the son of Heaven devotes himself to self-adjustment; and on the day he leads in person the three ducal ministers, the nine high ministers, the princes of states (at court), and his Great officers, to meet the autumn in the western suburb, and on their return he rewards the general-in-chief, and the military officers in the court. The son of Heaven also orders the leaders and commanders to choose men and sharpen weapons, to select and exercise those of distinguished merit, and to give their entire trust only to men whose services have been proved - thereby to correct all unrighteousness. (He instructs them also) to make enquiries about and punish the oppressive and insolent - thereby making it clear whom he loves and whom he hates, and giving effect to (the wishes of) the people, even the most distant from court. |

| 7 | 時則訓: | 孟秋之月，招搖指申，昏鬥中，旦畢中，其位西方，其日庚辛，盛德在金，其蟲毛，其音商，律中夷則，其數九，其味辛，其臭腥，其祀門，祭先肝。涼風至，白露降，寒蟬鳴，鷹乃祭鳥，用始行戮。天子衣白衣，乘白駱，服白玉，建白旗，食麻與犬，服八風水，爨柘燧火，西宮御女白色，衣白采，撞白鍾，其兵弋，其畜狗。朝于總章左個，以出秋令。求不孝不悌，戮暴傲悍而罰之，以助損氣。立秋之日，天子親率三公、九卿、大夫以迎秋於西郊。還，乃賞軍率武人于朝，命將率，選卒厲兵，簡練桀俊，專任有功，以征不義，詰誅暴慢，順彼四方。命有司，修法制，繕囹圄，禁奸塞邪，審決獄，平詞訟。天地始肅，不可以贏。是月農始升谷，天子嘗新，先薦寢廟。命百官，始收斂，完堤防，謹障塞，以備水潦，修城郭，繕宮室。毋以封侯，立大官，行重幣，出大使。行是月令，涼風至三旬。孟秋行冬令，則陰氣大勝，介蟲敗穀，戎兵乃來。行春令，則其國乃旱，陽氣複還，五穀無實。行夏令，則冬多火災，寒暑不節，民多虐疾。七月官庫，其樹楝。 |

| 1 | 迎氣: | 《禮記·月令》曰：孟春立春之日，天子親率三公九卿、諸侯大夫，以迎春于東郊；蔡邕《章句》曰：迎春者，禮昊天句芒之神也。于東郊，就其位也。邑外為郊，去邑八里，內因木數也。《周禮》：建國之神位，兆五帝於四郊，以蒼珪禮東方，以赤璋禮南方，以白琥禮西方，以玄璜禮北方，皆有牲幣，各放其方之色。樂奏《太簇》，歌《青陽》冕，執干戚舞《云翹》《育命》，所以導牧時和也。孟夏，迎夏于南郊；《章句》曰：迎夏者，禮炎帝祝融神也。于南郊七里，因火數也。玉用赤璋，牲幣各放其色。樂奏《中宮》，歌《朱明》，其他皆如孟春也。孟秋，迎秋于西郊；《章句》曰：迎秋者，禮少昊蓐收之神。于西郊九里，因金數也。玉用白琥，牲幣各放其色。樂奏《夷則》，歌《自藏》，其他如孟夏之禮。孟冬，迎冬于北郊。《章句》曰：迎冬者，禮顓頊玄冥之神也。于北郊六里，水數。玉用玄璜，牲幣各放其色。奏樂《應鍾》，歌《玄英》，其祀皆為孟秋之禮。 |
