積恩為愛,積愛為仁,積仁為靈,靈臺之所以為靈者,積仁也。神靈者,天地之本,而為萬物之始也。是故文王始接民以仁,而天下莫不仁焉。文,德之至也,德不至則不能文。商者,常也,常者質,質主天;夏者,大也,大者,文也,文主地。故王者一商一夏,再而復者也,正色三而復者也。味尚甘,聲尚宮,一而復者,故三王術如循環,故夏后氏教以忠,而君子忠矣;小人之失野,救野莫如敬,故殷人教以敬,而君子敬矣。小人之失鬼,救鬼莫如文,故周人教以文,而君子文矣。小人之失薄,救薄莫如忠,故聖人之與聖也,如矩之三雜,規之三雜,周則又始,窮則反本也。《》曰:「彫琢其章,金玉其相。」言文質美也。

《尚書大傳》曰:子張曰:「仁者何樂於山也?」孔子曰:「夫山者,𡷞然高。」「𡷞然高則何樂焉?」「夫山,草木生焉,鳥獸蕃焉,財用殖焉。生財用而無私為,四方皆伐焉,每無私予焉。出雲風以通乎天地之間,陰陽和合,雨露之澤,萬物以成,百姓以饗,此仁者之所樂於山者也。」
又曰:周人以仁接民,而天下莫不仁。故曰文矣。言文王仁,故謂之文也。
又曰:舜不登而高,不行而遠,拱揖于天下,而天下稱仁。
又曰:《誓》可以觀義,《五誥》可以觀仁,《甫刑》可以觀誡,《洪范》可以觀度。
