| Qu Li I: | When his father or mother is ill, (a young man) who has been capped should not use his comb, nor walk with his elbows stuck out, nor speak on idle topics, nor take his lute or cithern in hand. He should not eat of (different) meats till his taste is changed, nor drink till his looks are changed'. He should not laugh so as to show his teeth, nor be angry till he breaks forth in reviling. When the illness is gone, he may resume his former habits. |

| 10 | 喪服: | 喪有病得飲酒食肉何？所以輔人生己，重先祖遺支體也。故《曲禮》曰：「居喪之禮，頭有瘡則沐，身有瘍則浴，有疾則飲酒食肉。五十不致毀，七十唯衰麻在身，飲酒食肉。」又曰：「父母有疾，食肉不至變味，飲酒不至變貌，笑不至矧，怒不至詈，琴瑟不御。」《曾子問》曰：「三年之喪，練不群立，不旅行，禮以飾情。三年之喪而吊哭，不亦虛乎！」《禮檀弓》曰：「曾子有母之喪，弔子張。」子張者，朋友，有服，雖重服弔之，可也。《曾子問》曰：「小功可以與祭乎？孔子曰：『斬衰已下，與祭，禮也。』」此謂君喪然也。子夏問：「三年之喪，既卒哭，金革之事無避者，禮與？」孔子曰：「吾聞諸老聃曰：『周公伯禽，則有為之也。』今以三年之喪從其利者，吾不知也。」 |

《晉書》曰：王祥，性至孝。繼母朱氏不慈，猶令除掃牛下，祥愈恭謹。父母有疾，衣冠不解。母令守奈實，每風雨至，抱樹而立。母又思黃雀炙，忽有十數黃雀飛入幕，以供母食。又母冬月欲食生魚，祥脫衣剖冰求之，冰忽自解，雙鯉躍出，鄉里以為孝感所致。 又曰：吳隱之，字處默。年十歲，丁父憂，每號哭，行人為流涕。家貧，無人鳴鼓，每至號哭之時，有雙鶴警叫，及祥練之夕，復有群雁俱集。時人咸以孝感所致。 |
