| 6 | 徐無鬼: | 莊子送葬，過惠子之墓，顧謂從者曰：「郢人堊慢其鼻端若蠅翼，使匠石斲之。匠石運斤成風，聽而斲之，盡堊而鼻不傷，郢人立不失容。宋元君聞之，召匠石曰：『嘗試為寡人為之。』匠石曰：『臣則嘗能斲之。雖然，臣之質死久矣。』自夫子之死也，吾無以為質矣，吾無與言之矣。」 |
| Xu Wu-gui: | As Zhuangzi was accompanying a funeral, when passing by the grave of Huizi, he looked round, and said to his attendants, 'On the top of the nose of that man of Ying there is a (little) bit of mud like a fly's wing.' He sent for the artisan Shi to cut it away. Shi whirled his axe so as to produce a wind, which immediately carried off the mud entirely, leaving the nose uninjured, and the (statue of) the man of Ying standing undisturbed. The ruler Yuan of Song heard of the feat, called the artisan Shi, and said to him, 'Try and do the same thing on me.' The artisan said, 'Your servant has been able to trim things in that way, but the material on which I have worked has been dead for a long time.' Zhuangzi said, 'Since the death of the Master, I have had no material to work upon. I have had no one with whom to talk.' |

《莊子》曰：陶者云：「我善治埴，圓者中規，方者中矩。」范土曰陶。陶，化也。埴，黏土也。匠人曰：「我善治木，曲者中鉤，直者應繩。」曲，鉤也。繩，直也。謂匠人機巧，善能治木，曲直必中鉤繩也。夫埴、木之性，豈欲中規矩鉤繩哉？土木之性，稟之造物，不求曲直，豈慕方圓？陶者匠人，浪為臧否。 又曰：百工有器械之巧則壯。 又曰：巧者勞而智者憂，無能者無所求。 又曰：無為也而笑巧。巧者有為以傷神。 又曰：覆載天地，刻雕眾形而不為巧，此之謂天樂。忘樂而樂足矣。 又曰：以瓦注者巧，以鉤注者憚，以黃金注者昏。所要愈重，則其心愈棼也。 又曰：郢人堊，堊，白土。漫其鼻端，若蠅翼，使匠石斫之。匠石運斤成風而斫之，盡堊而鼻不傷，郢人立而不失容。宋元君聞之，召匠石曰：「嘗試為寡人為之。」匠石曰：「臣則嘗能斫之，雖然，臣之質死久矣。」 |
