14 少儀:
為人臣下者,有諫而無訕,有亡而無疾;頌而無諂,諫而無驕;怠則張而相之,廢則掃而更之;謂之社稷之役。
Shao Yi:
One in the position of a minister and inferior might remonstrate (with his ruler), but not speak ill of him; might withdraw (from the state), but not (remain and) hate (its Head); might praise him, but not flatter; might remonstrate, but not give himself haughty airs (when his advice was followed). (If the ruler were) idle and indifferent, he might arouse and assist him; if (the government) were going to wreck, he might sweep it away, and institute a new one. Such a minister would be pronounced as doing service for the altars (of the state).

《禮》曰:衛有大史曰柳莊,寢疾。公曰:「若疾革,雖當祭必告。」公再拜稽首,請於尸曰:「有臣柳莊也者,非寡人之臣,社稷之臣也。聞之死,請往。」不釋服而往,遂以襚之。
又曰:為人臣者,殺其身,有益於君,則為之。況于其身以善其君乎?周公優為之。于讀為迂。迂,廣也,大也。
又曰:故仕於公曰臣,仕於家曰仆。
又曰:大臣法,小臣廉,官職相序,君臣相正,國之肥也。
又曰:為人臣下者,有諫而無訕,有亡而無疾。頌而無諂,諫而無驕,怠則張而相之,相,助也。廢則⺘帚而更之,謂之社稷之役。役,為也。
又曰:子言之:事君先資其言,拜自獻其身,以成其信。是故君有責於其臣,臣有死於其言,故其受祿不誣,其受罪益寡。子曰:事君大言,入則望大利,小言,入則望小利。故君子不以小言受大祿,不以大言受小祿。子曰:事君不下達,不尚辭,非其人弗自。子曰:事君遠而諫,則諂也;近而不諫,則尸利也。子曰:邇臣守和,宰正百官,大臣慮四方。子曰:事君欲諫不欲陳。《詩》云:「心乎愛矣,遐不謂矣。中心藏之,何日忘之?」子曰:事君難進而易退,則位有序;易進而難退,則亂也。子曰:事君三違而不出境,則利祿也。雖曰不要,吾弗信也。子曰:事君慎始而敬終。子曰:事君可貴可賤,可富可貧,可生可殺,而不可使為亂。亂謂違廢事君之禮。
又曰:子曰:大臣不親,百姓不寧,則忠敬不足而富貴已過也。大臣不治而邇臣比矣。忠敬不足謂臣不忠於君,君不敬其臣。邇,近也。言近以見遠,言大以見小,互言之記私相親也。故大臣不可不敬也,是民之表也;邇臣不可不慎也,是民之道也。民之道,言民猶從也。君毋以小謀大,毋以遠言近,毋以內圖外,則大臣不怨,邇臣不疾,而遠臣不蔽矣。
