37  | 曹公征劉曄、蔣濟等五人，皆揚州名士，每至亭傳，輒謀進見效論之具。曄獨臥不言，人怪之，曄曰：對明主非精神不接，精神可學而得乎？此言有至理微機，非上智不知也。及進見，曹公問揚州先賢、賊之形勢，四人爭對。待次而言，再見如此，公每和悅，曄終不一言。四人笑之。後一見，公止無所復問，曄乃設遠言以動公，公適知便止。若是者三。其旨趣以為遠言宜徵精神，獨見以盡其機，不宜於揋坐說也。公探見其心，坐罷，尋以四人為令，而授曄以腹心之任。每有疑事，輒以函問，一夜數十至。觀古人心腹之得君乃如此，彼媟媟婞然者何以為哉曄所謂遠言，蓋舜禹之事耳。故以腹心任之也？ |
