35  | 雞籠山在彭湖嶼東北，故名北港，又名東畨去泉山甚邇，地多大山，澤叢篁深菁夾以溪流，溪流入海水淡，故其外名淡水洋。無君長，有十五社，社多者千人，少或五六百人，無徭賦，以子女多者為䧺，聽其號令，雖居海中，畏海不善操舟，罕與隣國往來，俗尚勇暇，即習走，日可數百里，足皮厚數分，履荊棘如平地，所産竹，大至數拱，長十丈，以竹搆屋，覆之以茅，聚族而居。明成祖永樂中，鄭和徧至東西洋，靡不獻琛，恐後，獨此畨逺避不至。世宗嘉靖末，雞籠山人遭倭焚掠，避居山後，嗣有紅毛畨至此，因事耕鑿，設闤闠稱臺灣焉。明末，給事中何楷陳靖海之策，大率以臺灣為奸民之窟，欲逐去紅毛，時不能用。 |
