王融字元長，瑯邪人，僧達之孫也。少警慧，博渉多通仕，齊武帝遷秘書丞，歴中書郎。竟陵王子良㧞為寜朔將軍。武帝大漸，謀立子良，及欝林即位，下獄賜死。○《詩品》曰：齊寜朔將軍王融詩，齊中庶子劉繪詩，元長士章並有盛才，詞羙英浄，至於五言之作，幾乎尺有所短，譬應變將略，非武侯所長，未足以貶卧龍也。
