25  | 立類為母，從類為子母，主形子主聲，說文眼、學眼見之則成類耳，聼之則不成類。廣韻，耳學耳聼之則成類眼，見之則不成類。故說文主母而役子，廣韻主子而率母，說文形也，禮也，廣韻聲也，樂也，說文以母綂子，廣韻以子該母臣舊作象類書，總三百三十母為形之主，八百七十子為聲之主，合千二百文而成無窮之字。許氏作說文，定五百四十類，為字之母，然母能生而子不能生，今說文誤以子為母者二百十類。且如說文有句類生拘生，鉤有類生㮚，生㮚有半類，生胖，生叛有菐類，生僕生䑑，據拘當入手類，鉤當入金類，則句為虛。設㮚當入木類，㮚當入米，類則為虛，設胖當入肉，類叛當入反類，則半為虛設。僕當入人類，䑑當入臣類，則菐為虛。設蓋，句也也，半也，菐也，皆子也。子不能生，是為虛設。此臣所以去其二百十而取其三百三十也。論子母所自。 |
