夫為人師,精守玄一,一為萬宗,不得有漏。來者無卻,賦道隨堪,採察其志,獎厲其緣,祛遣其滯,發暢其才,顯明其德,品次其功,能否无謬,人神協和。常居謙退,无兆矜誇,將護一切,莫生怨根,斷絕惡本,增長善源。慎勿空言,言依經誥,演議明法,幽顯令通,彼我无惑,疑忌永忘,塵疪既遣,神靈往來,萬願日新,一切咸濟。志行此道,存文五千,文千雖五,義冠无央,先代相傳,師資叵計。今之所遵,十天大字,神仙人鬼,共所歸宗,文同數等,无有一異。但感者未齊,應者微革,河上《章句》、係師《想爾》,轉字會時,立題標議,始殊終同,隨因趣果,洞明之師,諦宜宣誥。其大字以數入道,故先言五千,而後云經;《想爾》以道統數,故先云經,而後言五千;《河上》道數相涉,故分經以及文,品章為第句,各有應焉。妙思之儔,研期感應,勿互舛亂筌蹄也。《五千文》包羅備周,眾經祖宗,三洞支條,先分後合,終歸道德,乃極一源也。人生多端,大階三品,小中至大,大洞大上。中小之士,所濟者安,才智洪纖,大者常少。所以眾聖先出小法三皇,先身然後及物,物乃是大非小。小才之始,始於修身,自得入中,從中至大,故有三洞,洞神、洞玄、洞真是也。師三洞可為大,師一二洞間,小師而已。勿自嗊,虛言吾大。夫實大者,時所不須,觀方設教,亦託為小。小中二法,化物為急,物多小知,不可與太牢饗孩兒,慈母所不任也;乳哺薦雄壯,聖師所不為矣。
