王君清夫居金閶南濠之上,地中囂㑹,人習華詡利,賄惟其常。王君恬性文雅,雖塵鞅掌,而能收蓄古器物書畫以自適,喜親賢人,士夫與相過,從為樂,視他市人獨異也。余間嘗過君君,見其二子伯守、仲寵、秀頴,好修器業並可觀,竊嘆君之所為,非獨可以潤身,而所為沾溉其子者,亦既可徵矣,已而有司選士二子,並以里儁補校官、弟子,貟于是以其父命詣余再拜請字,惟古之冠者,賔字之尊者祝之,又或見於先生,長者從而誨之,若晉趙文子之於欒武子諸人是已。今三加之禮已廢不行,而命字之義固在,或從而衍其字義,為文而致之,是猶祝辭之遺也,然惟鄉長者,與冠者之執友為宜,顧余非其人,則辭之踰年不得命其師,沈明之余友也,又從為之請,乃即其名義訓之守之文,從官從寸寸,法度也,所以執乎物也。天下之事,浩穰無極,而理亦無極,然有要焉,得其要則治,不得其要則廢。寵之義為尊、為居、為愛、為恩,其訓則榮也。上之所以榮我無間,而吾所以迓承之者,有勝有不勝而榮辱繫焉,然有所謂不假寵以為榮者,則人所自貴也,是故守之要在約,而人所自貴者,孰愈於仁?孟子曰:守約而施博者,善道也」。又曰:「仁則榮,不仁則辱」。字守曰:「履約字。寵曰履仁而申之以辭,辭曰:惟萬斯物,厥理孔殷,何以酬斯?維兹一身,身則匪勞,事㒺弗克,乃操之權,乃履之實,維天有樞,維海有濤,茍得其持,靡逺弗操,守約施博,聖訓則明,君子脩身,天下攸平,維人之身,莫不有貴,匪金而玉,匪祿而位,豈不榮斯?寵之在人,匪人則專,繄命之存,人之所榮,人亦能辱,惟仁自我,履之而足,君子履仁,勿替允延,以允以延,有錫自天,凡厥斯訓,匪我伊詞,軻書昭昭,夫豈我欺,式斯庸斯,是在二子,有攸惟中,尚慎所履。
