蜀山之大者曰岷山，其川曰岷江。「岷」字《說文》作「㟩」，「省」作「岷」，漢人𨽻書作「汶」，多與汶」、「上」之「汶相混列，字貉不踰。汶，謂川江也，非汶上也。毅，敬順已辨之。《史記》：冉駹為汶山郡司焉。温公類篇》曰：汶，音岷。據《史記》引《禹貢》岷、嶓既藝」及「岷山之陽」及「岷山、導江」者作「汶」，蓋古字通用也。《三國志》：蜀後主至湔登觀坂，觀汶水之流。王右軍與周益州撫書曰：「要欲一遊自汶嶺」。《五代史》：蜀主王建貶衞尉少卿李鋼為汶川尉」，作「岷」。
