朱子掊擊漢儒,不遺餘力,而亦不能不取其《禮注》。蓋他經可推求文句,據理而談。三《禮》則非有授受淵源,不能臆揣也。敬作此注,於鄭義多所駁難,然得者僅十一二,失者乃十之八九。如謂「未仕者不稅人」,稅當為襚。「國君七個,遣車七乘」,個字同介。《月令》「冬祀行」是祀井,非祀道塗之行,若祀道塗,則祀土矣。又謂「鄉人禓」是袒裼相逐,不讀為陽,鄭訓為強鬼,非也。又謂「動乎四體」為人之四體,非龜也。凡此之類,有前人已言者,亦有自立義者,固足以匡鄭氏之誤。至於《曲禮》「葱㳿處末」,鄭訓㳿為熟葱,本自不誤。蓋上文有膾炙、有醯醬。膾為細切之肉,腥細者為膾,炙為炮肉,皆二物也。葱㳿分生熟,亦承上二物而來。而敬引「井渫不食」,謂㳿即渫字,通為屑,蓋蔥屑也。考之《爾雅》、《說文》、《玉篇》、《廣韻》諸書,古無訓㳿為屑者也。又謂盞酒於清,汁獻於盞酒,猶明清於舊澤之酒,本以茅泲醴盛於盞,和之以水,加鬱金汁以獻,如今人以水和飲陳酒之類。舊澤謂舊酒醲厚如膏澤。鄭援《周禮》,謂明酌為事酒,盞酒為盎齊,清為清酒,汁獻作汁沙,舊澤當作舊醳,皆誤。今詳推鄭義,皆援據精詳,無可駁詰。敬乃以意更易,徒形臆斷。又謂襲上有衣,不宜又加以裼,多衣則累,古義不明。不知錦在裘上,上有絅衣,經典分明,何可居今而議古?又謂孚尹,孚為信,尹為割,鄭作浮筠者非。不知玉之浮光旁達,猶誠信之及人,若第訓孚為信,則下文固有信字在,豈非重文累句乎?大抵鄭氏之學,其間附會讖文以及牽合古義者,誠不能無所出入,而大致則貫穿群籍,所得為多。魏王肅之學百倍於敬,竭一生之力與鄭氏為難,至於偽造《家語》以助申己說。然日久論定,迄不能奪康成之席也。敬乃恃其聰明,不量力而與之角,其動輒自敗,固亦宜矣。
