魏王肅議:「高皇諱,明皇帝既祔,儒者遷高皇主,尚書來訪,宜復諱不?及引殷家或乃同名。答曰:『殷家以甲乙為字,既二名不偏諱,且殷質故也。禮所謂舍故而諱新,諸侯則五代不諱,天子之制,死不得與諸侯同五代則不諱也。春秋魯諱具敖二山,五代之後,可不復為諱,然已易其名,則故名不復諱也。猶漢元后父名禁,改禁中為省中,至今遂以省中為稱,非能為元后諱,徒以名遂行故也。春秋時,晉范獻子適魯,名其二山,自以為不學。當獻子時,魯不復為二名諱,而獻子自以為犯其諱,直所謂不學者也。禮曰詩書、臨文、廟中皆不諱,此乃謂不諱見在之廟,不謂已毀者也。文王名昌,武王名發,成王時頌曰『克昌厥後』、『駿發爾私』。箕子為武王陳洪範曰,『使羞其行而國其昌』。厲王名胡,其子宣王時詩曰:『胡不相畏,先祖于摧。』其孫幽王時詩曰:『哀今之人,胡為虺蜴。』此則詩書不諱明驗也。按漢氏不名諱,常曰『臣妾不得以為名字』,其言事不諱,蓋取諸此也。然則周禮其不諱時,則非唯詩書、臨文、廟中,其餘皆不諱矣。今可太祖以上去墠乃不諱,諱三祖以下盡親如禮,唯詩書、臨文、廟中不諱。自此以後,雖百代如漢氏故事,臣妾唯不得以為名字,其言事不諱。所謂魏國於漢,禮有損益,質文隨時,亦合尊之大也。」
