子曰:「志士仁人,無求生以害仁,有殺身以仁。」志士,有志之士。仁人,則德之人也。理當死而求生,則於其心有不安矣,是害其心之德也。當死而死,則心安而德全矣。程子曰:「實理得之於心自別。實理者,實見得是,實見得非也。古人有捐軀隕命者,若不實見得,惡能如此?須是實見得生不重於義,生不安於死也。故有殺身以仁者,只是就一箇是而已。」

子貢問為仁。子曰:「工欲善其事,必先利其器。居是邦也,事其大夫之賢者,友其士之仁者。」賢以事言,仁以德言。夫子嘗謂子貢悅不若己者,故以是告之。欲其有所嚴憚切磋以其德也。程子曰:「子貢問為仁,非問仁也,故孔子告之以為仁之資而已。」

子曰:「君子義以為質,禮以行之,孫以出之,信以之。君子哉!」孫,去聲。義者制事之本,故以為質榦。而行之必有節文,出之必以退遜,之必在誠實,乃君子之道也。程子曰:「義以為質,如質榦然。禮行此,孫出此,信此。此四句只是一事,以義為本。」又曰:「『敬以直內,則義以方外。』『義以為質,則禮以行之,孫以出之,信以之。』」

子曰:「過而不改,是謂過矣。」過而能改,則復於無過。惟不改則其過遂,而將不及改矣。
