שאל המלך ווּ: "כששני צבאות נפגשים, וההוא לא יכול להגיע וזה לא יכול להתקדם, והמערך של כל אחד מהם מאורגן היטב אך הוא אינו מעיז להשתלח ראשון, אם אני רוצה לתקוף את ההוא אך לא מוצא יתרון, מה עלי לעשות?"
ענה הדוכס האדיר: "בתוהו מבחוץ וסדר מבפנים, ברעב לכאורה אך שובע בפועל, באיכות מבפנים וקהות מבחוץ, באחד חובר ואחד נפרד, באחד נאסף ואחד נפזר, אלו יסתירו את תכניותיך, וישמרו בסוד את ההזדמנויות, יאדירו את צבאותיך, ויטשטשו את להביך. בהיותי שקט וכאילו נדם קולי, האויב אינו יודע את אשר הכנתי. ואם ארצה את מערבו, אתקוף ממזרח." |
