将即席，When (a pupil) is about to go to his mat,
容毋怍。 he should not look discomposed.
两手抠衣去齐尺。With his two hands he should hold up his lower garment, so that the bottom of it may be a cubit from the ground.
衣毋拨， His clothes should not hang loosely about him,
足毋蹶。 nor should there be any hurried movements of his feet.
先生书策琴瑟在前，If any writing or tablets of his master, or his lute or cithern be in the way,
坐而迁之， he should kneel down and remove them,
戒勿越。 taking care not to disarrange them.
虚坐尽后，When sitting and doing nothing, he should keep quite at the back (of his mat);
食坐尽前。when eating, quite at the front of it.
坐必安，He should sit quietly
执尔颜。 and keep a watch on his countenance.
长者不及， If there be any subject on which the elder has not touched,
毋馋言。 let him not introduce it irregularly.
正尔容， Let him keep his deportment correct,
听必恭。 and listen respectfully.
毋剿说， Let him not appropriate (to himself) the words (of others),
毋雷同。 nor (repeat them) as (the echo does the) thunder.
必则古昔，If he must (adduce proofs), let them be from antiquity,
称先王。 with an appeal to the ancient kings.
