儒家 -> 孝經 -> 事君 -> 1

子曰：The Master said,
「君子之事上也， "The superior man serves his ruler in such a way that,
進思盡忠，when at court in his presence, his thought is how to discharge his loyal duty to the utmost,
退思補過，and when he retires from it, his thought is how to amend his errors.
將順其美，He carries out with deference the measures springing from his excellent qualities
匡救其惡， and rectifies him (only) to save him from what are evil.
故上下能相親也。Hence, as the superior and inferior, they are able to have an affection for each other.
《詩》云：It is said in the Book of Poetry:
『心乎愛矣， In my heart I love him,
遐不謂矣， And why should I not say so?
中心藏之， In the core of my heart I keep him,
何日忘之。』」 And never will forget him."
