儒家 -> 禮記 -> 中庸 -> 22

「凡事豫則立，"In all things success depends on previous preparation,
不豫則廢。 and without such previous preparation there is sure to be failure.
言前定則不跲，If what is to be spoken be previously determined, there will be no stumbling.
事前定則不困，If affairs be previously determined, there will be no difficulty with them.
行前定則不疚，If one's actions have been previously determined, there will be no sorrow in connection with them.
道前定則不窮。If principles of conduct have been previously determined, the practice of them will be inexhaustible.
在下位不獲乎上， When those in inferior situations do not obtain the confidence of the sovereign,
民不可得而治矣； they cannot succeed in governing the people.
獲乎上有道： There is a way to obtain the confidence of the sovereign;
不信乎朋友，-if one is not trusted by his friends,
不獲乎上矣； he will not get the confidence of his sovereign.
信乎朋友有道： There is a way to being trusted by one's friends;
不順乎親，-if one is not obedient to his parents,
不信乎朋友矣； he will not be true to friends.
順乎親有道： There is a way to being obedient to one's parents;
反諸身不誠，-if one, on turning his thoughts in upon himself, finds a want of sincerity,
不順乎親矣； he will not be obedient to his parents.
誠身有道： There is a way to the attainment of sincerity in one's self;
不明乎善， -if a man do not understand what is good,
不誠乎身矣。 he will not attain sincerity in himself.
誠者，Sincerity
天之道也； is the way of Heaven.
誠之者，The attainment of sincerity
人之道也。 is the way of men.
誠者不勉而中，不思而得，從容中道，聖人也。He who possesses sincerity is he who, without an effort, hits what is right, and apprehends, without the exercise of thought;-he is the sage who naturally and easily embodies the right way.
誠之者，擇善而固執之者也。He who attains to sincerity is he who chooses what is good, and firmly holds it fast.
博學之， To this attainment there are requisite the extensive study of what is good,
審問之， accurate inquiry about it,
慎思之， careful reflection on it,
明辨之， the clear discrimination of it,
篤行之。 and the earnest practice of it.
有弗學，The superior man, while there is anything he has not studied,
學之弗能， or while in what he has studied there is anything he cannot understand,
弗措也； will not intermit his labor.
有弗問， While there is anything he has not inquired about,
問之弗知， or anything in what he has inquired about which he does not know,
弗措也； he will not intermit his labor.
有弗思， While there is anything which he has not reflected on,
思之弗得， or anything in what he has reflected on which he does not apprehend,
弗措也； he will not intermit his labor.
有弗辨，While there is anything which he has not discriminated
辨之弗明， or his discrimination is not clear,
弗措也， he will not intermit his labor.
有弗行， If there be anything which he has not practiced,
行之弗篤， or his practice fails in earnestness,
弗措也。 he will not intermit his labor.
人一能之己百之，If another man succeed by one effort, he will use a hundred efforts.
人十能之己千之。If another man succeed by ten efforts, he will use a thousand.
果能此道矣， Let a man proceed in this way,
雖愚必明，and, though dull, he will surely become intelligent;
雖柔必強。」though weak, he will surely become strong."
