Zi Xia said, "If a man withdraws his mind from the love of beauty, and applies it as sincerely to the love of the virtuous; if, in serving his parents, he can exert his utmost strength; if, in serving his prince, he can devote his life; if, in his intercourse with his friends, his words are sincere"
《孟子·梁惠王下》:惟仁者為能以大事小，是故湯事葛，文王事昆夷。
But it requires a perfectly virtuous prince to be able, with a great country, to serve a small one - as, for instance, Tang served Ge, and king Wen served the Kun barbarians.

For regulating the human (in our constitution) and rendering the (proper) service to the heavenly, there is nothing like moderation.
