| There came from Chu to Teng one Xu Xing, who gave out that he acted according to the words of Shen Nong. Coming right to his gate, he addressed the duke Wen, saying, 'A man of a distant region, I have heard that you, Prince, are practising a benevolent government, and I wish to receive a site for a house, and to become one of your people.' |
| 《·》: | 德又下衰，及神農、黃帝始為天下，是故安而不順。 |
| The condition going on to deteriorate and decay, Shen Nong and Huang-Di arose, and took the administration of the world, on which (the people) rested (in their methods), but did not themselves comply with them. |
| 《·》: | 毋發令而待，以妨神農之事也。 |
| Nor any issuing of orders to be hereafter carried into effect. All these things will interfere with the business of husbandry, (which is specially dear to) the Spirits. |
| 《·》: | 伏羲神農教而不誅，黃帝堯舜誅而不怒，及至文武，各當時而立法，因事而制禮。 |
| Fu Xi and Shen nong taught but did not punish; Huang di, Yao and Shun punished but were not angry; Wen wang and Wu wang both established laws in accordance with what was opportune and regulated rites according to practical requirements. |
| 《》: | 籲，吾聞虙羲、神農歿，黃帝、堯、舜殂落而死，文王，畢。 |
| Yangzi sighed, saying: I have heard that Fu Xi and Shen Nong died; that Huangdi, Yao, and Shun also passed away; that King Wen was buried at Bi. |
| 《·》: | 財用足而力作者神農也，上治懦而行修者曾、史也。 |
| 《·》: | 神農之播穀也，因苗以為教。 |
| 《·》: | 武王追思先聖王，乃褒封神農之後於焦，黃帝之後於祝，帝堯之後於薊，帝舜之後於陳，大禹之後於杞。 |
| 《》: | 親夏故虞，絀唐謂之帝堯，以神農為赤帝。 |
| 《·》: | 此三者，貴賤愚智賢不肖欲之若一，雖神農、黃帝其與桀、紂同。 |

| 《》: | 於是神農皇帝弦木為弧，剡木為矢，弧矢之利，以威四方。 |

| 《》: | 昔者神農伐補遂，黃帝伐涿鹿而禽蚩尤，堯伐驩兜，舜伐三苗，禹伐共工，湯伐有夏，文王伐崇，武王伐紂，齊桓任戰而伯天下。 |
