yān ㄧㄢ (6): 連詞，相當於「乃」、「則」。 Connective: and, then.
《墨子·兼愛上》:聖人以治天下為事者也，必知亂之所自起，焉能治之，不知亂之所自起，則不能治。
The wise man who has charge of governing the empire should know the cause of disorder before he can put it in order. Unless he knows its cause, he cannot regulate it.
《道德經》:信不足，焉有不信焉。
Thus it was that when faith (in the Dao) was deficient (in the rulers) a want of faith in them ensued (in the people).
《禮記·祭法》:壇墠，有禱焉祭之，無禱乃止。
