孟子·告子上》:故理義之悅我心,猶豢之悅我口。
Therefore the principles of our nature and the determinations of righteousness are agreeable to my mind, just as the flesh of grass and grain-fed animals is agreeable to my mouth.
禮記·曲禮上》:以足蹙路馬,有誅。
It he trample on their forage, he should be punished.

With the present rulers all is different. They would heavily tax the people in order to enjoy elaborately the different meats and fish and turtle cooked in various wavs. (The lord of) a large state is served with a hundred courses and (that of) a small state, with tens of courses, which will cover a table space of ten square feet. The eyes cannot see all the dishes, the hands cannot handle them all, and the mouth cannot taste them all. In winter they will freeze, and in summer they sour. As the ruler serves himself thus, naturally his assistants imitate him.
莊子·齊物論》:民食豢,麋鹿食薦,蝍且甘帶,鴟鴉耆鼠,四者孰知正味?
Men eat animals that have been fed on grain and grass; deer feed on the thick-set grass; centipedes enjoy small snakes; owls and crows delight in mice; but does any one of the four know the right taste?
道德經》:天地不仁,以萬物為狗。
Heaven and earth do not act from (the impulse of) any wish to be benevolent; they deal with all things as the dogs of grass are dealt with.
商君書·去強》:強國知十三數:境內倉口之數,壯男壯女之數,老弱之數,官士之數,以言說取食者之數,利民之數,馬牛藁之數。
A strong country knows thirteen figures: the number of granaries within its borders, the number of able-bodied men and of women, the number of old and of weak people, the number of officials and of officers, the number of those making a livelihood by talking, the number of useful people, the number of horses and of oxen, the quantity of fodder and of straw.
