| 10 | 曲礼上: | 太上贵德，其次务施报。礼尚往来。往而不来，非礼也；来而不往，亦非礼也。人有礼则安，无礼则危。故曰：礼者不可不学也。 |
| Qu Li I: | In the highest antiquity they prized (simply conferring) good; in the time next to this, giving and repaying was the thing attended to. And what the rules of propriety value is that reciprocity. If I give a gift and nothing comes in return, that is contrary to propriety; if the thing comes to me, and I give nothing in return, that also is contrary to propriety. If a man observe the rules of propriety, he is in a condition of security; if he do not, he is in one of danger. Hence there is the saying, 'The rules of propriety should by no means be left unlearned.' |

| 1 | 进士归礼... : | 俊秀等科，此皆考功主之。开元二十四年，员外郎李昂性不容物，乃集贡士与之约曰。文之美恶，悉之矣。考校取检，存乎至公。如有请托于人，当悉落之。昂外舅常与进士李权邻居相善，遂言之于昂，昂果怒，集贡人，数权之过。权谢曰。人或猥知，窃闻于左右，非求之也。昂因曰。观衆君子之文。信美矣。然古人云，瑜不掩瑕，忠也。其词或有不典雅。与衆详之若何。皆曰：唯。权出谓衆曰。向之言，其意属我也。昂意在此，吾落必矣，又何籍焉。乃阴求昂瑕。他日，昂果摘权章句小疵，榜于通衢以辱之。权拱而前，谓昂曰。礼尚往来，鄙文之不臧，既得而闻矣，而执事昔以雅什，尝闻于道路。愚将切瑳。可乎。昂怒而应曰。有何不可。权曰。耳临清渭洗，心向白云闲，岂执事之词乎。昂曰：然。权曰。昔唐尧老耄，厌倦天下，将禅许由，由恶闻，故洗耳。今天子春秋鼎盛，不揖让于足下，而洗耳何哉。昂闻惶骇，诉于执政，谓权狂不逊，遂下权吏。初昂强复，不受嘱请。及有势位。明钞本势位作吏议。求者莫不允从。由是廷议以省郎位轻，不足以伏多士，乃命吏部侍郎专知焉。出《摭言》 |
