10 曲礼上:
太上贵德,其次务施报。礼尚往来。往而不来,非礼也;来而不往,亦非礼也。人有礼则安,无礼则危。故曰:礼者不可不学也。
Qu Li I:
In the highest antiquity they prized (simply conferring) good; in the time next to this, giving and repaying was the thing attended to. And what the rules of propriety value is that reciprocity. If I give a gift and nothing comes in return, that is contrary to propriety; if the thing comes to me, and I give nothing in return, that also is contrary to propriety. If a man observe the rules of propriety, he is in a condition of security; if he do not, he is in one of danger. Hence there is the saying, 'The rules of propriety should by no means be left unlearned.'

于是复命讲礼记。帝问曰:“‘太上立德,其次务施报’。为治何由而教化各异;皆修何政而能致于立德,施而不报乎?”博士马照对曰:“太上立德,谓三皇五帝之世以德化民,其次报施,谓三王之世以礼为治也。”帝曰:“二者致化薄厚不同,将主有优劣邪?时使之然乎?”照对曰:“诚由时有朴文,故化有薄厚也。”帝集载帝自叙始生祯祥曰:“昔帝王之生,或有祯祥,盖所以彰显神异也。惟予小子,支胤末流,谬为灵祇之所相佑也,岂敢自比于前喆,聊记录以示后世焉。其辞曰:惟正始三年九月辛未朔,二十五日乙未直成,予生。于时也,天气清明,日月晖光,爰有黄气,烟熅于堂,照曜室宅,其色煌煌。相而论之曰:未者为土,魏之行也;厥日直成,应嘉名也;烟熅之气,神之精也;无灾无害,蒙神灵也。齐王不吊,颠覆厥度,羣公受予,绍继皇祚。以眇眇之身,质性顽固,未能涉道,而遵大路,临深履冰,涕泗忧惧。古人有云,惧则不亡。伊予小子,曷敢怠荒?庶不忝辱,永奉烝甞。”傅畅晋诸公赞曰:帝常与中护军司马望、侍中王沈、散骑常侍裴秀、黄门侍郎锺会等讲宴于东堂,并属文论。名秀为儒林丈人,沈为文籍先生,望、会亦各有名号。帝性急,请召欲速。秀等在内职,到得及时,以望在外,特给追锋车,虎贲卒五人,每有集会,望辄奔驰而至。

《魏志》曰:高贵乡公讳髦,字彦士,文帝孙,东海定王霖子也。正始五年,封郯县高贵乡公。少好学,夙成。齐王废,公卿议立公。十月,公至于玄武馆,群臣奏请舍前殿,公以先帝旧处,避止西厢;群臣又请以法驾迎,公不听。丙寅,公入于洛阳,群臣迎拜西掖门南,公下舆将答拜,傧者请曰:“仪不拜”。公曰:“吾人臣也。”遂答拜。至止车门下舆,左右曰:“旧乘舆入。”公曰:“吾被皇太后征,未知所为。”遂步至太极东堂,见于太后。是日即皇帝位,百僚陪位者欣欣焉。甘露元年夏四月,帝幸太学,问诸儒曰:“圣人幽赞神明,仰观俯察,始作八卦,后圣重之为六十四,立爻以极数,凡斯大义,罔有不备,而夏有《连山》,殷有《归藏》,周曰《周易》,《易》之书,其故何也?”《易》博士淳于俊对曰:“庖牺因燧皇之图而制八卦,神农演之为六十四,黄帝、尧、舜通其变,三代随时,质文各由其事。故《易》者,变易也;名曰《连山》,似山出纳云气连天地也;《归藏》者,万事莫不归藏于其中也。”帝又曰:“若使庖牺因燧皇而作《易》,孔子何以不云燧人氏没庖牺氏作乎?”俊不能答。讲《易》毕,复命讲《尚书》。帝问曰:“郑玄云稽古同天,言尧同于天也。王肃云尧顺考古道而行之。二义不同。何者为是?”博士庾峻对曰:“先儒所执,各有乖异,臣不足以定之。然《洪范》称三人占,从二人之言。贾、马及肃皆以为顺考古道。以《洪范》言之,肃义为正。”帝曰:“仲尼言惟天为大,惟尧则之。尧之大美,在乎则天,顺考古道,非其至也。今发篇开义,以明圣德,而舍其大,更称其细,岂作者之意耶?”峻对曰:“臣奉遵师说,未喻大义,至于文质折中,裁之圣思。”复命讲《礼记》。帝问曰:“太上立德,其次务施报。为治何由而教化各异,皆修何政而能致于立德,施而不报乎?”博士马照对曰:“太上立德,谓三皇五帝之世以德化民,其次施报,谓三王之世以礼为治也。”帝曰:“二者教化薄厚不同,将主有优劣耶?时使之然乎?”照对曰:“诚由时有朴文,故化有薄厚也。”辛未,帝幸辟雍,会命群臣赋诗。侍中和逌、音由。尚书陈赛等作诗赋稽留,有司奏免官,诏曰:“吾以暗昧,爱好文雅,广延诗赋,以知得失,而乃尔纷纭,良用反侧。其原逌等。主者宣敕,自尔已后,群臣皆当玩习古义,修明经典,称朕意焉。”
