16 曲礼上:
夫为人子者,三赐不及车马。故州闾乡党称其孝也,兄弟亲戚称其慈也,僚友称其弟也,执友称其仁也,交游称其信也。见父之执,不谓之进不敢进,不谓之退不敢退,不问不敢对。此孝子之行也。
Qu Li I:
Whenever a son, having received the three (first) gifts (of the ruler), declines (to use) the carriage and horses, the people of the hamlets and smaller districts, and of the larger districts and neighbourhoods, will proclaim him filial; his brothers and relatives, both by consanguinity and affinity, will proclaim him loving; his friends who are fellow-officers will proclaim him virtuous; and his friends who are his associates will proclaim him true. When he sees an intimate friend of his father, not to presume to go forward to him without being told to do so; nor to retire without being told; nor to address him without being questioned - this is the conduct of a filial son.

卫公子交馈马四乘于子思,曰:“交不敢以此求先生之欢而辱先生之洁也。先生久降于鄙土,盖为宾主之饩焉。”子思曰:“伋寄命以来,度身以服卫之衣,量腹以食卫之粟矣。且又朝夕受酒脯及祭膰之赐,衣食已优,意气已定,以无行志,未敢当车马之贶。礼、虽有爵赐人,不逾父兄。今重违公子之盛旨,则有謟礼之愆焉,若何?”公子曰:“交已言于君矣。”荅曰:“不可。为人子者,三赐不及车马。”公子曰:“我未之闻也。谨受教。”

《礼》曰:乃择元辰,天子亲载耒耜,置之车右,率公卿诸侯大夫,躬耕籍田。
又曰:乃教田猎,以习五戎。班马政,命仆夫七驺咸驾,载旌旐,授车以级,整设于屏外。有司搢朴,北面以誓之。
又曰:大夫七十而致仕。若不得谢,则必赐之几杖,行役以妇人;适四方,乘安车。自称曰“老夫”。
又曰:夫为人子者,三赐不及车马。
又曰:献车马者,执策绥,武车绥旌,德车结旌。
又曰:前有车骑,则载飞鸿。
又曰:车驱而驺,至于大门,君抚仆之手,而顾命车右就车。门闾沟渠必步。
又曰:君车将驾,则仆执策立于马前。君出就车,则仆并辔授绥。
又曰:客车不入大门。
又曰:祥车旷左。
又曰:乘君之乘车,不敢旷左,左必式。
又曰:国君不乘奇车。
又曰:车上不广咳,不妄指。
又曰:问士之富,以车数对;问庶人之富,数畜以对也。
又曰:君之适长殇,车三乘;公之庶长殇,车一乘;大夫之适长殇,车一乘。
又曰:五十无车者,不越疆而吊人。
又曰:有若曰:“晏子一狐裘三十年,遣车一乘,及墓而反。国君七介,遣车七乘;大夫五介,遣车五乘。晏子焉为知礼。”
又曰:赴车不戢櫜韔。兵不戢,示当报。以告丧之辞言之,谓还告于国。櫜,甲衣。韔,弓衣。
又曰:大夫杀,则止佐车;佐车止,则百姓田猎。佐车,䡱送之车也。
又曰:有发,则命大司徒教士以车甲。乘兵专衣甲之仪。有发,谓有军师之发卒。
又曰:有圭璧金璋,不鬻于市;命服、命车,不鬻于市;宗庙之器,不鬻于市;牺牲不鬻于市;戎器不鬻于市;用器不中度,不鬻于市;兵车不中度,不鬻于市。鬻,卖也。
又曰:曾子问曰:“古者师行,必以迁庙主行乎?”孔子曰:“天子巡狩,以迁庙主行,载于齐车,言必有尊也。今也,取七庙之主以行,则失之矣。”齐车,金路也。
又曰:曾子问曰:“古者师行,无迁主则何主?”孔子曰:“主命。”问曰:“何谓也?”孔子曰:“天子诸侯将出,必以币帛皮圭,告于祖祢,遂奉以出,载于齐车以行。每舍奠焉,而后就舍。”以脯醢礼神,乃敢即安。所告而不以出。即埋之。
又曰:茍有车,必见其轼;茍有衣,必见其敝。
又曰:其为宾,则公馆复,私馆不复。其在野,则升其乘车之左毂,以其绥而复。私馆则卿大夫之家也。不私之复,为主人之恶。
又曰:武王克殷,反商。未及下车,而封黄帝之后于蓟,封帝尧之后于祝,封帝舜之后于陈。下车而封夏后氏之后于杞,封殷之后于宋;封王子比干之墓,释箕子囚,使之行商容而复其位;庶民弛禁,庶士信禄;济河而西,马散之华山之阳,而弗复乘;牛散之桃林之野,而弗复服;车甲衅而藏之府库,而弗复用。
又曰:大夫以布为輤音旧。而行,至于家而说輤。载以輲车,入自门,至于阼阶下而说车。举自阼阶,升适所殡。
又曰:主国待客,出入三积。饩客于舍,五牢之具陈于内,米三十车,禾三十车。
