國用入閣三載，碌碌無所見，是月庚午，卒于官，遣行人陳際泰䕶其喪歸。質實，陳際泰，字大士，臨川人，與同邑章世純、羅萬藻、東鄉艾南英以時文名天下，其為文敏甚，一日可二三十首。先後所作至萬首，經生舉業之富，無若際泰者。崇禎七年成進士，年六十八矣，又三年除行人。至是䕶國用䘮南行，卒于道。薛國觀以罪免。
