1  | 明史鑑撰。案憲宗、孝宗時有兩史鑑。其一長洲人，弘治己未進士，見《太學題名碑》。其一吳江人，字明古，號西村，隱居不仕，即撰此集者也。鑑留心經世之務，三原王恕巡撫江南時，聞其名，延見之，訪以時政。鑑指陳利病。恕深服其才，以為可以當一面。所著詩四卷、文四卷，嘉靖間其孫周裒而刊之，以墓表及諸人哀挽之詩附於後。周用、盧襄各為之序。其文究悉物情，練達時勢，多關於國計民生，而於吳中水利言之尤詳。第五卷皆明初諸人《列傳》，敘次簡明，疑其欲為野史而未就也。其詩亦落落無俗韻，惟古詩不知古音，所注葉韻多謬誤。文中《祭徐有貞文》及文後《跋》一篇，以私恩之故，為力辨奪門一事，未免曲筆耳。案王士禎《香祖筆記》曰：「吳江門人徐翰林電發，寄《西村集》二十八卷，其鄉前輩史鑑明古著也。集中有曾祖文質府君行狀，只言洪武中縛貪吏詣闕事，無一語及靖難。 |
