蘇　軾字子瞻。父洵，嘗遊學四方，母程氏親授以書。嘉祐二年試禮部，歐陽修得軾刑賞，忠厚論驚喜，疑門人曾鞏所為，乃寘第二。復以《春秋》對議居第一，修曰：「吾當避此人出一頭地」。治平二年，入判登聞鼓院。英宗自藩邸聞其名，欲召入翰林，知制誥，宰相韓琦曰：「軾才逺大器也，他日自當為天下用，今驟進，適以累之」。遂直史館。熙寧中，王安石創行新法，軾上書論其不便，安石怒，使御史謝景溫論奏其過，窮治無所得，軾遂請外，通判杭州，復徙知密、徐二州，再知湖州，多以詩寄慨。御史李定、舒亶媒蘖以為訕謗，欲寘之死，神宗憐之，以黄州團練副使安置，量移汝州。元祐元年，遷中書舍人，尋除翰林學士。哲宗嘗召對便殿，宣仁后曰：「先帝每誦卿文章，必歎曰：奇才奇才，但未及進用卿耳」。軾不覺哭失聲，后與哲宗亦泣。已而命坐賜茶，撤御前金蓮燭送歸院。厯官禮部尚書兼端明殿學士。後坐元祐黨籍，累貶儋耳，更三大赦，遂提舉玉局觀。歸，卒於常州。高宗即位，贈資政殿學士，諡文忠。有《東坡集》數百巻行於世。
