8  | 蘇武，字子卿。天漢元年，以中郎將持節送匈奴使留在漢者，與副中郎將張勝、假吏常惠等俱至匈奴。匈奴欲降之，使衞律召武受辭。武引佩刀自刺，律驚，自抱持，武氣絕，半日復蘇。律謂武曰：「蘇君律前歸匈奴，擁衆數萬蘇。君今日降，明日復然。空以身膏草野，誰復知之？」武不應。律曰：「君今不聽吾計，後雖欲復見我，尚可得乎？」武罵曰：「女畔主背親，何以女為？」見律知武終不可脅，白單于，乃幽武大窖中，絕不飲食。天雨雪，武臥齧雪，與旃毛幷咽之，數日不死，匈奴以為神。徙武北海上，無人處，使牧羝武，至海上，廩食不至，掘野䑕去草實而食之。仗漢節牧羊，臥起操持，節旄盡落。久之，單于使李陵至海上，置酒設樂，謂武曰：單于聞陵與子卿素厚，故使來說足下，虚心欲相待。武曰：武父子無功德，皆為陛下所成就，今得殺身自效，誠甘樂之願，勿復再言。陵數日，復曰：子卿一聽陵言。武曰：「自分已死久矣，王必欲降，請畢今日之懽，效死於前。陵見其至誠，喟然嘆曰：嗟乎！義士！陵與衞律之罪上通於天！因泣下沾巾與武決去。後陵復至海上語，武捕得雲中生口，言吏民皆白服曰：上崩」。武號哭嘔血，旦夕臨。數月，昭帝即位，匈奴與漢和親漢求武等匈奴詭言武死，後漢使復至匈奴，常惠敎使者，謂天子射上林苑，得雁足，有繫帛書，言武等在某澤中，單于驚謝。漢使召會武官屬，隨武還。始元六年春，至京師，詔奉武一太牢謁武帝園廟，拜為典屬。國武留匈奴凡十九嵗，始以强壯出，及還，鬚髮盡白。宣帝神爵二年，病卒，圖畫麒麟閣。 |
