1  | 闲居无事，翻书度日；而资性粗钝，不能研究经学，惟历代史书，事显而义浅，便于流览，爰取为日课。有所得，輙札记别纸，积久遂多。惟是家少藏书，不能繁徵博采，以资叅订。间有裨乘脞说，与正史岐互者，又不敢遽诧为得间之奇。葢一代修史时，此等记载，无不蒐入史局，其所弃而不取者，必有难以徵信之处。今或反据以驳正史之讹，不免贻讥有识。是以此编多就正史纪传表志中，叅互勘校，其有抵牾处自见，輙摘出以俟博雅君子订正焉。至古今风会之递变，政事之屡更，有关于治乱兴衰之故者，亦随所见附著之。自惟中岁归田，遭时承平，得优游林下，寝馈于文史以送老，书生之幸多矣！或以比顾亭林《日知录》，谓身虽不仕，而其言有可用者，则吾岂敢。阳湖赵翼谨识
