48  | 暗夜燭燎，齊桓公合諸侯、衞人。後至公朝而與管仲謀伐衞，退朝而入衞。姫望見君下堂再拜，請衞君之罪。公曰：「吾於衞無故子，曷為請？」對曰：「妾望，君之入也。足髙氣彊，有伐國之志也，見妾而有動色伐衞也」。明日，君朝揖管仲而進之。管仲曰：「君舍衞乎？」公曰：「仲父安識之？」管仲曰：「君之揖朝也，恭而言也，徐見臣而有慙色，臣是以知之。君曰：善。仲父治外，夫人治內，寡人知，終不為諸侯笑矣。桓公之所以匿者，不言也。今管子乃以容貎音聲。夫人乃以行歩氣，志桓公雖不言，若暗夜而燭燎也，將祭亡牲。魯公索氏將祭而亡其牲，孔子聞之，曰：公索氏，比及三年，必亡矣」。後一年而亡。弟子問曰：「昔公索氏亡牲，夫子曰：比及三年，必亡矣。今期年而亡，夫子何以知其將亡也！孔子曰：祭之為言，索也，索也者盡也，乃孝子所以自盡於親也。至祭而亡其牲，則餘所亡者多矣，吾以此知其將亡也。 |
